Session 8

Well after I took a big breathe and looked at the work again, I finally think I caught up in the class and now I can stay on top of the class for the last two weeks. I am so relieved now and I am gonna try to stay on top of the class! Lets see if I can accomplish this.

Right now I am working on a storyboard for my project and I am still teaching the first group of learners and collecting the data needed for the storyboard. But hopefully in the next two weeks I can get a rough storyboard created for this class.

Thanks to Dr. Newberry for all his help through this class.

Session 7

Well I am officially gone crazy..... I thought I was only a week behind, but now trying to catch up looks bleak! I am trying to keep a positive attitude, but the dates are catching up to me and I am not on track. Trying to finish the IRB requirements and now I have to look at the project proposal plans. Geez, I am falling further in the hole with each passing week. I am amazed how everyone is able to do this. Well got to get back to work... Until next week, hope everyone is doing better than I am.

Session 6

Whew! Almost have a handle on my lit. review, but I am so behind in this class. I always feel like I am playing catch up. Anyways I am finishing my lit review because I am a procrastinator because I always think "there's always tomorrow," but that wears thin and now I am late and playing catch up to the class. I am kind of enjoying the class, but at the same time not getting the work done. Hopefully by this week I will have caught up and be able to be on time and keep up with the class. I don't know how the rest of my classmates do it, but I am trying to hang in there and do the best I can. Hope it is enough. Until next time, hope everyone is doing better then I am at this point.

Session 5

Well, after a whole roll of duct tape (suggestion of Dr. Newberry), I have almost completed my Lit review. I taped myself to the chair and started typing. I think it was Eman who commented on my blog last week about having the same trouble, but when she started typing, then she felt better about it. I kindof felt that way sometimes. I am just having trouble now looking at a screen. I work with computers at work, I come home and watch one of my favorite shows on the T.V. screen, then I do some homework on the computer. I am not going to have eyes by the time I get my masters. Well I turned in what I had for my lit review into Dr. Newberry, but I am continuing to work on the rest so I can turn it in to him ASAP. Thanks everyone for your encouragement and comments.

Session 3 and 4

After much frustration and million (upon millions) of e-mails back and forth to Dr. Newberry I finally (YEA) got my three topics for my lit review, now I am battling with myself to sit down and write the darn thing. I am finding things to distract me from getting my work done. My web browser would some how (unknown to me)(j/k) go to facebook, log me in and look at what my friends are doing. Then I would think my room is a mess and I would start cleaning my room. Then I would text everyone on my phone to see what they are doing. Now I'm in a rush to get the lit review done and I can't find a good place to sit and concentrate without distractions. This is turning out to be a three ring circus and I am a kid with ADHD and can't focus on one thing. Yikes, well this is turning into one of the things now distracting me from getting my lit review done, so until next time..... I need to get back to work.

Pre-thesis for ETEC 644

This is what I have so far for the pre-thesis, all comments and suggestions are welcomed. In fact I love it when people take time to look at my work and give me feedback.

Week 3 Pre-Thesis

Chapter 1: Background

A. Introduction:
Schools today are always trying to teach the students what is needed for students to succeed in life. They learn language arts, math, history, science, physical education, art, and music. With roughly six and a half hours of time the students spend in the classroom, it is hard for educators to teach these subjects let alone technology. Most students don’t even have access to basic technology like the Internet or a computer. That’s why some students love every chance they get to use a computer, even if it is to do a class assignment or project. With technology I have seen it improves student behaviors about learning and creates interest for the students. With technology students are able to be more creative and have easier access to more information thanks to the Internet. With the growing use of technology in the world today, people are required to use technology in some form in their everyday life. This means students would be required to use the technology when they join the work force, so it is important they get knowledge of the technology and get use to using the technology while they are in school. Nowadays the school district is trying to add technology standards for students to learn and have basic skills and knowledge of technology, but why wait. If students acquire the knowledge when they are young, then it will be easier for them in the future and for their teachers as well. For this project, I will be teaching students how to use the program iMovie. They are required to create a project on a country and I thought this would be a good way to teach the students this program so they could make a presentation of their country using iMovie.

B. Statement of the Problem: Our school’s students have the attitude and access to learn technology, but the teachers and students lack the knowledge about the software they have available to them.

C. Purpose of the Project: To create a resource for students and teachers to learn the basic functions of the program iMovie with using iMovie to create a movie showing the functions of iMovie.

Chapter 2: Review of the Literature

Chapter 3: Project Design

A. Analysis
1. Needs Assessment:
a. Students-
i. Discussion- I asked the students how they would like to present their projects. They have the choice of Powerpoint, poster board, or iMovie.
ii. Observation- Show students basic computer skills and knowledge as they complete task.
2. Specific Problems to Kimbark Elementary-
a. Students needs of completing projects
b. Students’ lack of knowledge of computer programs available.
3. Characteristics of Population-
4. Assessment of Presentation-
a. Student surveys

c. Storyboard of the video, asking perspective and previous viewers for input and comments.
d. Resource viewable for easy viewing using iMovie to view on any computer or DVD player.
C. Development
1. Alpha Test 1- Teach a group of students to learn what knowledge of the program is needed in the resource.
2. Alpha Test 2- Create resource based on information collected in Alpha Test 1, then use resource with another group of students.
3. Revise resource with information from Alpha Test 2.
4. Beta Test- Present to teachers and students who show interest in learning the program.
D. Implementation
1. Place resource on a central server or on every computer for all students and teachers wanting to learn the iMovie program.
2. Notify teachers and students of the resource and show them how to access the resource.
